W hat rivalry?!? Gimme a break! Big Blue Nation hangs on to those early football wins over the Cards from back in the ‘20s just like those basketball championships they won back before dribbling was allowed.In the modern era, the Cards are 9-7 against the Cats and winners of 7 of the last 11 with an average margin of victory of 20 points a game. Three of UK’s wins during that stretch were by 4, 5 and 6 points. (Some might call that dumb luck.) Either way, Cards fans, let’s get our shirts and wear them proudly. By next Saturday evening we’ll be waving at that team bus bound for Lexington, its taillights as red as our shirts and its black tires carrying the extra weight of the season’s first loss. _ |
I ’m sorry, Cards fans, were you saying something? We weren’t paying attention. Too busy polishing up these Governor’s Cups from the last three years. We’re making space for the 2010 trophy, too.Hey, it’s ok. There’s no shame in losing to a team from a powerhouse conference. Think of the SEC as the varsity. No one expects the JV to beat the varsity this year, not even the most diehard Cards fans. We’re like your big brother. The big brother that towers over you, casually holding you at arms length while you swing wildly and miss. So, Cats fans, let’s get our shirts and wear them with pride to this tune-up game before the real season begins in late September. When it’s over, whether they like it or not, they’re the ones who’ll be blue. |
